My Mother, My Friend, My Gift | UCHealth

Editing and story advising by Chelsea Jackson for Director Allison Otto and UCHealth

5 Minutes | 2018

Lindsay and Vera were bonded more than just by their mother-daughter relationship; they both rode horses and shared a bond as riders. One night, Vera went to check on the horses and got a splinter. After noticing the wound wouldn’t heal, Vera saw a hepatologist and learned that she had a rare autoimmune disease called primary biliary cirrhosis and was at stage four liver failure. Her only option was a liver transplant. Her daughter Lindsay stepped up to give her mom the best gift she could. Lindsay’s live liver transplant inspired her to help others and she is now a physician assistant at UCHealth.
