How Uber Robs its Drivers | More Perfect Union

Cinematography by Rob Jackson for More Perfect Union

10 minutes | 2023

Uber and Lyft don’t tell drivers the total cost of a ride and the lack of transparency is intentional — to prevent drivers from organizing for better pay. But More Perfect Union got their hands on data that reveals Uber is taking as much as 53%. Drivers are using that data to fight back.

Cinematographer Notes: Rob did the majority of filming for this documentary-style news gathering production around the Denver International Airport and at the University of Colorado in Boulder with a freelance producer and More Perfect Union. Most of the interviews were done on the fly, while the CU-Boulder researcher interview was lit with a single LED and waning natural light, with a bunch of on the fly b-roll filming done in between. Special thanks to everyone who was willing to appear on camera or even invite us into their vehicle to share their personal experiences and perspectives as well as the research to make this video possible.
